Financial Literacy Month 2026 encourages Canadians to talk money and build financial confidence

Canada NewsWire

OTTAWA, ON, Oct. 30, 2026 /CNW/ -- November is Financial Literacy Month (FLM) in Canada, and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) is encouraging Canadians to have simple, practical conversations about money to help build confidence and improve financial well-being.

As this year's campaign centres on the "Talk Money" theme, it highlights how everyday conversations about finances can help people navigate financial decisions, plan for the future, and learn from one another's experiences.

One important conversation to have is about fraud. While fraud can affect anyone, many victims hesitate to share their experiences because of embarrassment or stigma. Talking openly about fraud can help others recognize warning signs, avoid scams, and know where to turn for help.

FLM also encourages Canadians to review their banking needs and explore available options. Financial products, fees, and promotional offers change over time, and regular conversations about money can help people discover products and services that better meet their needs.

FCAC invites Canadians to participate in the "If your wallet could talk…" activity by sharing a memorable money conversation that influenced their financial journey. Organizations are also encouraged to share stories about the impact of their financial literacy initiatives using #FLM2026 and #TalkMoney.

Financial literacy is a shared responsibility, and this year's FLM campaign demonstrates the power of collective action. With strong participation from national, provincial, territorial, and community organizations, the momentum around the importance of talking about money and building financial confidence is growing.

Organizations are encouraged to share reliable financial education resources, promote financial well-being in their communities, and participate in FLM activities throughout November.

Get involved in FLM 2026. Visit the Financial Literacy Month campaign page to access tools, resources, and promotional materials to support your activities. Be sure to register your initiatives so your organization's efforts are reflected in the national story and contribute to a more complete picture of how Canadians are being supported.

Financial literacy is all about being able to navigate real-life financial decisions when it matters most—whether that's taking out a mortgage, managing debt, choosing financial products, or protecting ourselves from fraud."
